Dr. Hodges is a General Psychiatrist, a Medical Doctor who diagnoses and treats individuals who struggle with mental health issues or mental illness. As a medical doctor, she takes into consideration the entire patient including any and all concurrent medical issues, recognizing any medical or otherwise non-psychiatric issues that must be ruled out and addressed. Working directly with patients suffering from one or multiple mental health issues, she provides comprehensive psychiatric care that is evidence-based and consistent with the widely accepted standard of care practices yet tailored to each individual. As an experienced psychiatrist based in Austin, her patients appreciate the warmth, professional integrity, and open communication that define her medical practice. She assists patients to better understand their mental and emotional health, and having all of the necessary information, they are able make well informed decisions that will assist and empower them in their recovery.

Dr. Hodges specializes in mood disorders including depressive disorders, depression due to a medical illness, dysthymia, and bipolar spectrum disorders, anxiety disorders, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, adjustment disorders, binge eating disorder, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, thought or psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, women’s issues, and dual diagnoses.
Dr. Hodges is an outpatient psychiatrist and is not affiliated with any hospitals or other institution.
After years of hard work and strenuous studying, Dr. Cheryl Hodges began practicing as a General Psychiatrist in 2008. She has experience diagnosing and treating adult patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Dr. Hodges is a native of Oklahoma. She completed her undergraduate degree in Radiation Therapy Sciences at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. She subsequently served at the North Texas Veterans Affairs Health Care System in Dallas, Texas, for 5 years.
Dr. Hodges then returned to University to study Medicine. She attended the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Houston School of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She graduated a Medical Doctor in 2004. She chose Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine as her specialty, and graduated from the University of Texas at Houston Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Residency Program in Houston, Texas in 2008. Since then, she has continued to expand her knowledge-base and professional training. In 2013, Dr. Hodges completed training at the Harvard University School of Medicine in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, and has extensive knowledge and experience in this new and exciting treatment modality.
She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She has spent the bulk of her professional career as an outpatient adult psychiatrist in private practice in Alaska and now Texas. After practicing psychiatry and behavioral medicine in Alaska for ten years, she has moved back to Texas and resumed her private practice in the Austin area.
